Film Night – REMEMBER

You could cut the air with a knife when the closing scene of “Remember” played out across the screen at the Phoenix Cinema in Finchley on Monday July 18th.

Paperweight hosted the film and guests also benefitted from a pre-film 5 minute introductory talk about Paperweight’s work by our caseworker Esther Keen.

Included in the £20 ticket cost, was a free raffle and several lucky participants went home with a bonus !

The film itself, set in a Jewish US retirement home, featured Christopher Plummer and Martin Landau as well as European veteran actors Bruno Ganz and Jeroen Krabbe.

The acting, plot and screenplay were riveting, and the ending, without giving anything else away was astonishing and entirely unexpected.

We used the film evening as a “light touch” awareness-raising and fund raising vehicle and we are pleased to say that we raised £3,500 after costs which vindicated the event. Hopefully we will run more in the future.

Thank you to Simon Gold who organised the even and teamed up with Eventbrite to manage the bookings. Thanks also to all the ushers and usherettes and to the very helpful staff at the Phoenix.
